Overview

PEF Division 186 ("Division 186," "we," "us") represents Professional, Scientific & Technical (PS&T) employees of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and Department of State in Region 12, as a division of the Public Employees Federation (PEF). This policy explains what information we collect from members and site visitors, how we use it, and the choices available to you — including for SMS/text message communications.

Information we collect

We may collect the following information when you interact with Division 186, sign up for communications, or attend Division events:

• Name and contact information (email address, mobile phone number, mailing address)

• Employment information relevant to union representation (agency, work location, job title)

• Communication preferences and opt-in/opt-out status

• Information voluntarily submitted through forms, sign-up sheets, or direct correspondence with stewards or Division officers

We do not collect sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary for union representation and member communication.

How we use your information

Information collected is used to:

• Send union communications, including meeting notices, grievance and labor-relations updates, and event announcements

• Provide steward assistance and representation services to members

• Coordinate Division events and activities

• Maintain accurate membership and contact records

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

SMS/text messaging

If you opt in to receive text messages from Division 186, your mobile number is used solely to send you union-related communications as described above. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies based on Division activity.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, except as required to facilitate the text messages through our messaging platform (e.g., Twilio) and applicable wireless carriers.

You may opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP to any message. For help, reply HELP, or contact your steward directly.

Data retention and security

We retain member contact information for as long as you remain a member or opted-in recipient, or as needed to fulfill representation obligations under applicable law and the PEF/State PS&T Collective Bargaining Agreement. We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect member information from unauthorized access or disclosure.

Your choices

You may:

• Opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP

• Opt out of email communications via the unsubscribe link in any message, or through PEF's communication preferences form

• Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your contact information by contacting us directly (see below)

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
